looking to put more power in my truck for endoro raceing what engine would best fit my truck with least amount of work has a 2.9 v6 with auto tranny. I was told a 302 or 351W will bolt in my 87. I got a new 351W in my boat I am thinking of putting in so have been watching treads as to what all will be involved in this.Switch from 3.73 to 3.08 would drop the RPMs by 400 at 65MPH, and that's about a 20% drop, approx. 2,250 down to 1,850 assuming 27" tires in OD (5th gear) 2.3l engine sucks in 2.3liters of air for each 2 RPMs, 4 stroke engines needs 2 full revolutions of the crank shaft for each complete cycle of all cylinders firing.haven't done that swap. Don't own a 3.0L. however, you might need the bellhousing you are using that is on your tranny. expect to swap that. oil pan is it front or back sump/pickup as you said changing. as far as intake, if it is the same in all ways leave it. why buy gaskets that you dont have to and make more work for yourself. but be prepared to change it later date if need be. as said ...OBD2 uses many for inputs to the computer than your Ranger does.
