You might find a wormhole potion (dunno if it has recipe) that will teleport you to each other. Crafting a compass will reveal coordinates, that will help locate each other. But the distances will be huge and travelling on foot will take long time and dangerous.Not sure about shaders but i recommend Lycanites Redux. Just makes the lycanites mobs less hideous to look at. I tested several shaders and some are really fantastic but none work with night vision except the sildur's shader, which is quite good.
