They both are outstanding shooters for the price, each less than $400 with scopes. I paid around $300 for the Ruger but put a cheap 2x7x32 Simmons scope on it with plans to ...But the Axis's I own are shooters, very accurate for a budget rifle. Never let me down. But if you cycle the bolt of a Axis and the Savage..you will notice the difference. for me it is not an issue. My .223 Axis 1 (no accu trigger), is my favorite gun, Pulled in a trek on snowshoes, pulled in sled on snowmobile.The real question, Ruger American or Savage Axis II. Mossberg is known for their shotguns only, for a reason. My advice, buy a Savage Axis II.
